When MusicRadar assigned me to write about Oasis, I was not overjoyed. I figured I would start with the Wonderwall meme and go from there.
Once you move past the joke, though, it becomes an interesting question: why did this seemingly unremarkable song become such a standard for amateur guitarists?
One answer is to say that it is actually a pretty good song, all things considered. Sure, the lyrics are kind of meaningless, but that is no obstacle to a song being fun to sing and play.
Ultimately, I think that both the song and the Gallagher brothers are a mixture of attractive and abrasive. You don’t get popular without attractiveness, but if you want to get under people’s skin and stay there, you have to be at least a little bit annoying.
